How Do You Get Rid of Man Breasts?

Gynecomastia Surgery

Unluckily, some men have excess fat and breast glandular tissue growth on their chests. Unlike toned pectoral muscles, this excess tissue is soft, loose, and creates the appearance of “man breasts” or “man boobs.” Gynecomastia surgery can correct this aesthetic complaint and create more attractively masculine chest contours.

What Is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a condition of having excess fat and overdeveloped breast tissue in males. Men with severe cases may also have excess breast skin. Overabundant breast growth is far more common than most men realize, but despite its prevalence, it can lead to intense embarrassment, poor self-esteem, and low self-confidence.

Why Do I Have Male Breasts?

You might have male breasts for a variety of reasons. Most often, it is due to imbalanced hormones. Young men going through puberty and older men in their 50s and 60s may be more likely to have gynecomastia due to changes in their hormone levels. Gynecomastia can also be caused by medical conditions, or it may be a side effect of one of your medications. Being overweight or using steroids can contribute to gynecomastia as well. Our plastic surgeons can help you determine the cause of your gynecomastia to ensure that your treatment resolves the issue.

What Is the Solution for Gynecomastia?

For men who have gynecomastia, surgery is usually the best treatment if gynecomastia does not resolve itself after weight loss or other techniques have been considered. In fact, when enlarged breast tissue is present in males, surgery may be the only way to remove it. The procedure will usually include two parts: liposuction and excision. First, the surgeon will perform liposuction to extract any unwanted surplus fat from the chest area. Next, the surgeon will excise or remove excess glandular tissue and possibly skin to flatten the chest. After approximately one week of recovery, most men can return to work and normal activities, now with a more attractively firm chest.

Will My Results Last?

The results of gynecomastia surgery can be long-lasting, especially if you avoid weight fluctuations and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Other causes, such as unrelated medical conditions and the natural aging process, will need to be addressed to ensure that they do not cause future breast development. With gynecomastia treatment, you can eliminate your “man breasts” and have the flat, firm, and manly chest contour you desire.
